The Primary Elementary School serves children in second and third grades.  The school building was originally constructed in 1954 and renovated in 1991. Today the facility offers more than 154,000 square feet dedicated to meeting the needs of young learners.

Young children learn by doing. Learning is sequential and children must demonstrate readiness for new understandings based on their maturation and past experiences. Children acquire information and knowledge through interaction with people and objects. They are motivated to learn through their own need to make sense of the world around them.
The building has a card access system and offers telephone, television and intranet access in each classroom.  Other amenities include a multi-purpose room, two cafeterias/multi-purpose room, and a gymnasium with auxiliary gym space.

  • Snow Make-up Days?

Snow Make-up Days? Not At This Point!

As we settle back into a normal schedule following Winter Storm Jonas, some questions are popping up regarding how the cancellations we just experienced impact the school calendar. DTSD has constructed the 2015-16 calendar in such a way that we could absorb up to three cancellations without needing to have student “make up” days. As a result, unless we have two or more additional cancellations, there will be no need to add “make up” days at the end of the year. In the event that we do have two or more additional cancellations the days will be added at the end of the school year, beginning with June 8.

  • Help Native Plants Project Take Root at HHS

You can help an initiative to increase the use of native plants in the local landscape by supporting a project proposed by the Hershey High School (HHS) Environmental Club, the HHS Garden Club, and the HHS Student Council. Those organizations have teamed up to apply for funding that community members can support through an online program encouraging sustainability.
