    The Primary Elementary School serves children in second and third grades.  The school building was originally constructed in 1954 and renovated in 1991. Today the facility offers more than 154,000 square feet dedicated to meeting the needs of young learners. 
     
    Young children learn by doing. Learning is sequential and children must demonstrate readiness for new understandings based on their maturation and past experiences. Children acquire information and knowledge through interaction with people and objects. They are motivated to learn through their own need to make sense of the world around them.  
    The building has a card access system and offers telephone, television and intranet access in each classroom.  Other amenities include a multi-purpose room, two cafeterias/multi-purpose room, and a gymnasium with auxiliary gym space.

  • Winter Recess 2017-2018

    Derry Township School District will be on Winter Recess from Monday, December 25, 2017 through Tuesday, January 2, 2018. There will be no classes for students during this time. All offices, including the District Office, will be closed, with no business hours. The normal school schedule and regular business hours will resume on Wednesday. January 3, 2018.

  • Information Meeting for Fall 2018 Kindergarten Parents

    Register now for an information meeting hosted by Derry Township School District for township residents who are parents/guardians of children who will be 5 years old before Sept. 1, 2018 and are planning to attend kindergarten in DTSD this coming fall. The meeting will be held January 23, 2018 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Hershey Early Childhood Center. Topics to be covered will include the transition to a full day kindergarten program, the enrollment process, food services and transportation. Click the graphic for registration information.

  • How to get Info on Weather-Related Schedule Changes

    The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. When conditions dictate unscheduled closings, delays, or early dismissals are in the best interest of student safety, the district will announce information via an automated messaging system, on its website and social media feeds. These district-operated notification tools are the primary mechanisms by which schedule change information will be communicated.

  • DTSD Directors Named 2017 Innovative School Board

    The Derry Township School District Board of School Directors has been recognized by a statewide group for innovation in public education. The Pennsylvania School Boards Association presented DTSD School Board as a recipients of the Pennsylvania Education Innovation Award as part of its annual School Leadership Conference.In addition to the recognition as the 2017 Innovative School Board Award recipient, PSBA will donate $5,000 to the Trojan Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides supplemental funding and support for Derry Township School District’s academic, athletic, and arts.

  • Full Day Kindergarten Information Page

    At the June 12, 2017 School Board Meeting, the Board of School Directors approved the transition to Full-Day Kindergarten beginning the 2018-2019 school year. The measure includes an option for parents/guardians who prefer a ½-day program.
