Derry Township School District will join millions of others in preparing for potential earthquakes as part of the Great Shake Out on October 19. Emergency management experts all agree that "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" is the appropriate action to reduce injury and death during earthquakes; the Great Shake Out will reinforce those principles. Safety is DTSD’s highest priority, so throughout the year, the district’s students and staff participate in a variety of exercises such as fire drills, bus evacuations, intruder exercises and other scenarios to prepare for potential hazards.
DTSD is piloting a special courtesy transportation service for students in Grades 6-12 engaged in extra-curricular programs. The Activities Buses runs Monday – Friday during regular school days and provides transportation home for students involved in clubs, sports and other after-school activities. One bus departs the HHS/HMS Bus Corral at 4:30 p.m. with the second disembarking at 5:30 p.m. Run length will vary, depending on the number of students and their home destination.
