    Opened in 2002, the Early Childhood Center (ECC) commences the educational process in Derry Township School District.  The 72,000 square foot facility serves students in kindergarten and first grade.
     
    The ECC provides a safe environment that is conducive to the needs of young learners, many of whom are experiencing their first formal schooling. Utilizing developmentally appropriate teaching strategies and hands-on learning opportunities, the dynamic curriculum allows students the opportunity to gain knowledge through practical, meaningful experiences, thus stimulating an interest and excitement for learning. 
     
    The building has a card access system and offers telephone, television and intranet access in each classroom.  Other amenities include a multi-media center, a cafeteria/multi-purpose room and  a full court gymnasium.
     
    Annual events at the ECC include: Back to School Night, Book Fair, International Fair, Kindergarten and New Student Orientations, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Read Across America activities, Young  Learners Showcase and a reading incentive program.

  • DTSD Directors Named 2017 Innovative School Board

    The Derry Township School District Board of School Directors has been recognized by a statewide group for innovation in public education. The Pennsylvania School Boards Association presented DTSD School Board as a recipients of the Pennsylvania Education Innovation Award as part of its annual School Leadership Conference.In addition to the recognition as the 2017 Innovative School Board Award recipient, PSBA will donate $5,000 to the Trojan Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides supplemental funding and support for Derry Township School District’s academic, athletic, and arts.

  • Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS)

    Derry Township School District is taking part in the 2017 Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS) sponsored by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The survey will ask questions about the behaviors of school students in the 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grades, including questions about potential violence, weapons usage, depression, bullying, substance abuse, and resources.

  • DTSD To Participate in Great Shake Out

    Derry Township School District will join millions of others in preparing for potential earthquakes as part of the Great Shake Out on October 19. Emergency management experts all agree that "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" is the appropriate action to reduce injury and death during earthquakes; the Great Shake Out will reinforce those principles. Safety is DTSD’s highest priority, so throughout the year, the district’s students and staff participate in a variety of exercises such as fire drills, bus evacuations, intruder exercises and other scenarios to prepare for potential hazards.

  • Activities Bus Service Pilot Program

    DTSD is piloting a special courtesy transportation service for students in Grades 6-12 engaged in extra-curricular programs. The Activities Buses runs Monday – Friday during regular school days and provides transportation home for students involved in clubs, sports and other after-school activities. One bus departs the HHS/HMS Bus Corral at 4:30 p.m. with the second disembarking at 5:30 p.m. Run length will vary, depending on the number of students and their home destination.

  • 2017-2018 Budget Freezes Taxes, Maintains Programs!

    At the June 12th school board meeting, the Derry Township School District Board of School Directors proposed a $61.4 million budget for the 2017-2018 school year, with no increase in taxes. The Final 2017-2018 budget provides for resources for all programs currently operated by the Derry Township School District. In addition the final 2017-2018 budget includes a few enhancements to our current programs. First being all students in grades 6th through 12th will receive an iPad that can be used in school and at home. Second the budget includes expenses to support the development of the district’s full day kindergarten program for the 2018-2019 school year.

  • Full Day Kindergarten Information Page

    At the June 12, 2017 School Board Meeting, the Board of School Directors approved the transition to Full-Day Kindergarten beginning the 2018-2019 school year. The measure includes an option for parents/guardians who prefer a ½-day program.
